The constraint — a sixty-day programme with approvals still moving
Sixty days is a short programme for a full interior fit-out, and the design approvals — from the brand and from the centre — were settled later than the schedule assumed. That compresses the construction window rather than extending the deadline, because the opening date belongs to the mall.
How we solved it — two shifts and twenty on site through the final fortnight
Once the approvals came through we accelerated hard: two shifts, and around twenty people on site every day through the last fifteen days. That is only possible if the sequence has been planned so the trades can work alongside each other rather than in turn, and if the labour has been held available rather than moved to another job.
What this means for a retail fit-out
On a mall programme the time lost at the start is almost never recovered at the start. It is recovered at the end, by resourcing, and the contractor who can do that is the one who priced for the possibility rather than the one who assumed the approvals would land on time.
