Design & build of a bespoke retail kiosk including joinery, metal & glass works. A nine square metre bespoke retail kiosk at Seef Mall — three weeks in production, installed across a single night.
The constraint — three weeks of fabrication, one night to install
The shape of this job is the opposite of a fit-out. Almost all of it happens away from site: three weeks of fabrication, finishing and dry assembly, so that the piece arriving at the mall is complete rather than a set of parts.
How we solved it — delivering the kiosk complete rather than as a set of parts
What remains is one night. Delivery, movement through the centre's service routes, positioning, levelling, connection and clearing down, all inside the window the mall permits and all finished before trading. If anything has been left to be resolved on site, there is no time to resolve it.
What this means for a retail fit-out
That is why the three weeks matter. A kiosk installed in one night is the visible part of a job that was mostly invisible, and the discipline is in the fabrication rather than the installation.
