Bespoke Stretch Ceilings
Stretch and Barrisol ceiling works at Bahrain Museum
Design & installation of bespoke stretch ceiling works. Bespoke stretch ceilings designed and installed at the Bahrain Museum, completed in fifteen days and handed over two days before the exhibition opened.
The constraint — long-lead stretch fabric against a fixed exhibition date
Two constraints ran against each other. The stretch fabric was a long-lead item, so the material governed when work could begin; the exhibition date governed when it had to end. The available window between them was fifteen days and nothing about it was negotiable.
How we solved it — working inside a museum that stayed open to the public
The museum stayed open throughout. Working inside a running public institution means protecting the collection and the visitor route as carefully as delivering the ceiling — access times, noise, dust and the movement of materials all have to fit around a building that is receiving the public while the work goes on above them.
What this means for bespoke and specialist work
Stretch ceilings are also unforgiving of setting-out. The fabric shows the accuracy of the perimeter it is fixed to, so the work is in the frame rather than in the finish, and there is no adjustment available once it is tensioned. We handed over two days early.
- Occupied premises
