Bespoke metal works. Bespoke architectural metalwork for a restaurant at Al Aali Mall, fabricated and installed in thirty days.
The constraint — a curved shell formed in metal mesh
The concept was a curved shell formed in metal mesh. A curve in mesh is considerably harder than a curve in sheet: the material has its own behaviour, the pattern has to read continuously around the form, and every joint and edge is visible at eye level in a restaurant. There is nowhere for an approximate fit to hide.
How we solved it — setting-out and panelisation decided before fabrication
Resolving it took setting-out rather than fabrication skill alone. The geometry had to be worked through and the panelisation decided before anything was cut, because a mesh shell that is assembled on site from panels that were not planned as a set will show every discrepancy along its seams.
What this means for bespoke and specialist work
The work was fabricated through our metal partners to our shop drawings and under our supervision, and installed by our own team inside a trading mall, at night, without damage to the finishes already in place around it.
