Bespoke furniture joinery in Muharraq
Design & fabrication of bespoke furniture. Bespoke furniture for the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, made and installed in Muharraq over forty-five days.
The constraint — intricate joinery resolved on paper before anything was cut
The pieces carried a great deal of intricate joinery, and intricate joinery is an engineering coordination exercise long before anyone cuts material. Every junction, fixing and tolerance has to be resolved on a drawing first, because a joint that is wrong in the workshop is wrong on site and cannot be corrected with filler.
How we solved it — produced through our joinery partners, to our shop drawings
The work was produced through our joinery partners, to our shop drawings and under our supervision. That arrangement is deliberate: it lets us hold the detail and the sequence ourselves while the fabrication sits with makers who do this work every day.
What this means for bespoke and specialist work
Furniture for a public institution is also a durability brief rather than a photographic one. It is handled by everybody, every day, for years — so the specification question is not how it looks on the day it is installed but how it looks after a decade of being used by the public.
